After being snubbed at the ARIA's the psychedelic cats from Tame Impala have beaten some very stiff competition (including Sia, Bliss N Eso, Bag Raiders and Angus & Julia Stone) to scoop the Triple J Award for Australian Album of the Year. "Ever since hearing their first demos, we've been big fans of this band and their vision," Triple J's Richard Kingsmill, one of the judges for the annual award, said at the J Awards ceremony. Kingsmill added "This debut album is wonderfully crafted - it has plenty of layers but as a whole it paints a really strong picture, the album has a nod to the past, but it is also bursting with fresh ideas."

Recorded in enormous treehouse mansion with views of the Indian ocean, 'Innerspeaker' has been a massive favourite with fans and critics since is release early in the year and has resulted in a even bigger year for the band from supporting New York indie darlings MGMT on their US tour and performed at festivals including Splendour In The Grass and the UK's Reading Festival.
